Gorillaz 2016 album: Jamie Hewlett shares studio footage

It looks like a Gorillaz album will be finally released this year.

Collaborators Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett had been hinting that the virtual band will be releasing new material on 2016. Last year, Albarn said that a Gorillaz project was in its early stages.

The Gorillaz frontman added: “I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation.”

Artist Hewlett has recently released Instagram videos showing that he and Albarn are in the studio.

According to Consequence of Sound, one of the videos shows Albarn with legendary French composer Jean Michel-Jarre, producer Twilite Tone, and singer-songwriter Liam Bailey.

Despite the teasers, however, no formal announcement has been made. Last year, however, he said that work was being done. “I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well. I’m very excited. I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation.”

The upcoming album will be the follow-up to the band’s 2010 album The Fall.
